3 Bad Habits That Can Cause Hyperpigmentation

We all want an even skin tone because flawless skin makes you look younger. But as you age the likelihood that brown spots will begin to appear on your skin becomes more and more likely. Fortunately, age is only a small piece of the puzzle. Your daily habits have a huge impact on your complexion. Here are some negative habits that cause hyperpigmentation:

1. Being lazy about sun protection.

Sun damage is one of the leading causes of brown spots, also known as liver spots, appearing on your skin. Be vigilant about protecting your skin from the sun’s rays. Choose a broad spectrum sunscreen that’s at least 30 SPF and apply it every few hours when you’re out in the sun. Additionally, cover your skin up with sunglasses, a hat, and clothing.

2. Picking at your skin.

Don’t pick at your skin. It can cause inflammation, redness, and it can leave scars. Make a habit of leaving your skin alone and it’s more likely to heal without leaving marks.

3. Smoking

Smoking cigarettes is an easy way to damage your skin. Smoking releases toxic chemicals that can deplete your skin of antioxidants and damage skin cells. Often times, this skin damage appears as brown spots.

Protect your skin from brown spots by avoiding bad habits.
