4 Tips For Transitioning Your Run from Summer to Fall

   

Fall is here and it’s a fabulous time to hit the pavement. But as we move into the cool, crisp, and less humid weather of Fall, you may need to make a few adjustments to your running routine. Here are a few tips for running in the Fall:

1. You won’t need as much clothing as you think.

When you step outside in the fall, you may at first feel the cool chill and think it’s time to bundle up. But remember that as the body warms up on your run, you won’t need as much clothing as you think. As a good rule of thumb, when the temperature drops down to zero degrees Celsius, it’s time to throw on some leggings. The rest of your outfit should be layered so that you can remove clothing as your body warms up.

2. Hydration is still important.

While the air isn’t as warm or humid, that doesn’t mean that you don’t have to stay hydrated. Keep a water bottle with you throughout the day to sip on and try and drink 8 to ten cups of water per day so you’re properly hydrated for your run.

3. Stay motivated.

As the weather cools down, it can be more difficult to stay motivated. Enlisting the help of a running buddy is a great way to stay motivated. Additionally, laying your cloths out the night before can also help you maintain your routine.

4. Wear reflective gear.

As the days get shorter, it can be more difficult to get your run in during the sunlight hours. Make sure you wear reflective and brightly colored gear when it’s dark so you’re protected from passing cars.
