4 Tips to Get Rid of Brown Patches on Skin

Age spots can pop up on areas of the skin that are often exposed to the sun like your hands and feet and as a result of excess exposure to air and water pollution. Brown patches on skin are often due to the excess production of melanin in your body. Aging and menopause can also cause brown patches on skin.

1. Feed Your Skin From the Inside Out

Your skin is your body’s largest organ and it’s the most obvious indication of how healthy you are. Keep your skin healthy by not smoking, avoiding alcohol and caffeine, avoiding processed foods and fast foods, as well as refined table salt, sugar, saturated fats, fried foods, excessive meat and dairy, soft drinks, and artificial ingredients.

2. Protect Your Skin

No matter your age, protect your skin from the harsh rays of the sun with a high SPF broad spectrum sunscreen. Make sure you reapply throughout the day. Additionally, cover up with long sleeves, pants, and hats when you’re going to be in the sunlight for long periods of time.

3. Go Natural

Dangerous skin lightening agents may cause side effects. While bleaching creams with hydroquinone gradually fade brown patches on skin, they can contribute to some types of skin cancers and DNA damage. The treatments may also result in temporary itching, redness, burning, and dryness. Instead, choose natural yet effective topical creams that include some of the following natural ingredients: kojic acid, mulberry extract, licorice extract, emblica powder, vitamin E, sandalwood, and lemon juice extract.

4. Try Home Remedies

Lemon juice has a bleaching property that can diminish brown spots on face. Apply fresh lemon juice directly to the skin and leave it on for 30 minutes before rinsing it off. If you have sensitive skin, you can dilute the lemon juice with water or rose water.

Buttermilk contains lactic acid which is a great natural remedy to diminish brown spots. Apply buttermilk to your face with a cotton ball and leave it on your skin for 5 minutes before rinsing it off.
