Dry skin is the worst–flaky, scaly, and ruddy–and it can age you unnecessarily. It gets even drier in the winter time, when cold, dry air drains you of vibrancy. But you can take steps to understand, and therefore, better treat your dry skin. Here’s what you likely didn’t know about your dry skin:
1. Soaking in a hot bath is a no-no.
Those who frequently take hot showers or like to soak in hot baths could pay the price with dry skin. This is especially true in the winter when your skin is already stripped. While it may be tempting to warm up with a hot bath, it only dries your skin out more.
2. Your dry skin loves the humidity.
If you live in an area without humidity, your skin is more likely to be dry. This is also true if you go on vacation to a place that lacks humidity.
3. It could be a skin condition.
Your dry skin could actually be eczema, psoriasis, or another skin condition. If you also suffer from facial redness, it could be rosacea or windburn. Treat these conditions using natural ingredients like niacinamide, aloe, green tea, and pine bark extract.
4. Sun damage can lead to dry skin.
No matter the season, protect your skin against sun damage. Not only can it make you age, it can dry out your skin.
5. Antibacterial soap is too harsh for your skin.
Harsh soaps and detergents can also dry out your skin. Deodorant and antibacterial soaps are the most damaging.
We all have to bathe, we can’t all live in humid locations, as much as we try, we can not always avoid damaging rays from the sun, and we should all keep our hands clean to wash away germs that can cause illness. So really, the best thing you can do is to be conscious of the contributing factors to dry skin and be prepared with a thick moisturizer.
