Summertime can drain your skin of hydration. High temperatures combined with more time spent outside can cause dry itchy skin and leave your skin looking dull and flaky. It can even cause facial redness. Here’s how to keep your skin glowing this summer.
Dry Itchy Skin? 5 Tips to Keep Your Skin Hydrated This Summer
1. Don’t over cleanse.
We’re an over-washed culture, showering everyday and washing our faces multiple times daily. By over cleansing your skin you remove your skin’s protective layer of moisture, causing dry itchy skin. Facial redness is another result of over cleansing. Don’t over wash your face and when you do wash your face, make sure you moisturize as well.
2. Exfoliate, but not too often.
Exfoliation is a good idea for removing the top layer of skin and showing the newer, younger skin beneath. But exfoliating once a week using a loofah for your body and a pumice stone for your feet is enough. Again, make sure you moisturize after exfoliation.
3. Use naturally hydrating topical creams.
Use naturally hydrating topical creams that include vitamin E, one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants–it neutralizes free radicals and keeps your skin glowing. Pine bark extract is another natural ingredient that slows aging and holds in moisture.
4. Drink tons of water.
This is an obvious one, but none the less it’s important. Throughout the summer, keep a water bottle by your side and sip throughout the day. If you sweat a lot, it’s an invitation to drink even more water than you normally would.
5. Eat hydrating foods.
Choose hydrating foods that contain ample water like watermelon, cucumber, bell peppers, mango, and kiwi. Stay away from overly salted foods, alcohol, and caffeine, which drain your skin of moisture.
