How to Reduce the Stress That Causes Wrinkles

How to Reduce the Stress That Causes Wrinkles

Research has shown that chronic stress can cause aging and the wrinkles that go along with it. One study showed that telomeres (the end of chromosomes that shorten as you age) shorten earlier in those experiencing long term stress. What’s more, those that are chronically stressed often have trouble sleeping and insomnia can lead to under eye bags. So the bottom line is avoiding stress is important to looking younger. Here’s how to reduce stress:

1. Do what you love.

No matter how busy you get, remember to do what you love. Choose your favorite stress-relieving activity and do it regularly. Whether it’s yoga, running, surfing, or biking, find the time to fit it in your life.

2. Get regular massage.

Massage can actually reduce stress because it increases relaxation and decreases blood pressure. Massage has also been shown to decrease cortisol levels in the body. Cortisol, also known as the stress hormone, can cause anxiety, depression, and insomnia.

3. Learn to say no.

The busier you get the more stressful your life can become. If you want a less stressful life it’s important to treasure your time and avoid over scheduling. If you don’t really want to participate in an activity, don’t be afraid to say no.

4. Cut back on the caffeine.

If you’re sensitive to caffeine, it can raise your anxiety level and cause unnecessary stress. Not to mention that caffeine also dehydrates you, which makes wrinkles that much more visible.

Reduce stress in your life and you can stave off the aging process.
