How to Use Body Oil to Banish Winter Dry Skin

During the colder months when dry skin sets in body oil can be a great alternative to thicker moisturizing lotions. Body oils are often lighter and easier to rub in than moisturizers. You can choose from a number of different body oils depending on your skin type including coconut, sesame, or neem oil.

Body Oil Massage

If you’re plagued with dry skin in the winter time, you might want to consider a body oil massage every evening before bathing. Body oil massage nourishes and replenishes dry skin while detoxifying the body and even calming and soothing the nervous system.

Here are the steps to self body oil massage:

1. Heat up 2 to 3 ounces of your body oil of choice. Appropriate oil temperature would be 212F. When oil is at this temperature remove from the heat, let it cool and apply. Caution: Oil is highly flammable. Use low heat to raise the temperature of the oil. Do not leave hot oil unattended.

2. Put a few drops of the oil in your hands and rub them together.

3. Start by massaging your scalp, working the roots of your hair.

4. Move down to your face, working in small circular motions around the forehead, temples and cheeks.

5. Massage both your arms and legs using long strokes on the muscles and circular strokes around the large and small joints, moving fluids and lymph back towards the center of the body.

6. Massage your abdomen in a large circular motion. This can help get your digestive system moving.

7. Soak in the bath for a few minutes after your massage.

Daily body oil massage can treat even the driest skin in the winter time.
